You don`t always have the time to travel to faraway places, either you`re occupied with work or maybe family life is a bit hectic and you can`t get away. That doesn`t mean you can`t create a bit of a vacation at home.
4 tips to help you create that vacation feeling we all love at home
Collect souvenirs during previous trips
- This is such an easy way to go back to some of your best memories. Bringing home some of the amenities you find at your hotel can already create the perfect getaway. Close the bathroom door, fill the bathtub with your favorite (hotel) bath salt, close your eyes and recreate the setting from one of your previous trips.
- Collecting seashells to make DIY projects is also a good way to keep that vacation feeling going. Not to mention a great idea to do with the family.
Food
Time to spice up your dishes at home! Why not create an international dish? You can even go all the way and decorate the house a bit different. This will instant make you feel in Mexico or Jordan.
Tropical drinks
I always love this option, as it`s a fun way to imagine yourself at a tropical destination. You can find 5 tropical drinks with recipes here. Prefer something without alcohol? Then check out these delicious fruit juices.
Go out and explore your own backyard
If there`s something I`ve learned from traveling is that you don`t always appreciate what is right there under your nose. If you have a hard time seeing it, invite a friend from abroad and play tourist in your own country. Trust me when I say you`ll find lots of things to do and you don`t even have to travel far for it.
What do you do if you can`t travel to create that lovely vacation feeling?

For years, I’d make travel scrapbooks with the photos and little things (menus, train tickets, brochures, maps..) that I collected during the trip. Instant virtual getaway, even years later. The only thing missing are the smells we enjoyed along the way, like that of the warm sugary waffles in Belgium. Haven’t figured out how to duplicate that one, yet. 🙂

Great ideas! And yes, how cool would it be if you could duplicate that one 😉
