When driving from the Great Ocean Ecolodge to the Cape Otway Lighthouse, we saw a couple of koalas up in the trees. This cute koala was fast asleep as koalas rest motionless for about 16 to 18 hours a day, due to their low metabolic system. When not asleep it`s feeding himself with eucalypt leaves. You can find the koala in coastal regions of eastern and southern Australia, but is not found in Tasmania, the Northern Territory or Western Australia.
During my first visit to Australia years ago, I only saw them in a park. Able to hold it there, I remember their fur being soft, but their claws being very sharp. Seeing them in the wild is so much more amazing.
