It`s a long drive from Sorrento to Satriano, about 6 hours. But my friends have family living there. So, it would be a pity not to go see them and the beautiful Calabria. It`s not so touristy yet.
Satriano, is a little town in the hills. Because it`s high up, you have some stunning views from up here. Especially when you come out of the newly renovated church and look over the houses to see the ocean in the background.
Spending some time in an Italian family confirmed for me the myth of Italian mothers making home made dishes and telling everyone: “Mangiare, Mangiare”. They prepared so many nice dishes and kept insisting to eat more 😉
We had a short, but lovely stay at Satriano Calabria. Next on the agenda, Rome! It`s a long trip back from Satriano to Rome, about 7 hours of driving. Arriving in Rome, we checked in at the Courtyard Hotel Rome Airport. We choose this hotel because of the convenience of dropping the rental car and an early flight the day after tomorrow.
Little anecdote when bringing back the car:
Bringing back the rental car was quite an adventure. The office closed at 11.30 pm and we wanted to make sure we got there on time to give back the key. We got at the airport around 11 pm, and of course when you get in the airport, you still have to look for the office. After asking the few people who were still there, we were running and taking elevators, to get there. Laughing along the way about how stupid it must have looked 🙂 When we finally got to the car rental desks, we saw everyone BUT Budget. I couldn`t believe it! Apparently Budget is on a different floor. You can imagine the adrenaline pumping through our veins. Luckily we got there just in time, to hear that we could have just dropped off the key in a key box!!
Let`s explore Rome!
