Bruges, a city known for its beauty and history, is perfect for a weekend getaway. Tucked away just behind the Bruges` Market Square you can find the boutique four star Relais & Chateaux Heritage. I had the privilege to spend two nights at this luxurious hotel while visiting the charming Bruges. Read my five reasons why you should stay at Hotel Heritage.
Location
The hotel is located at Niklaas Desparsstraat 11, which is behind the main square: Grote Markt. You just walk out of the street, take a right and find yourself on the Market Square with the beautiful Belfry Tower in front of you. Museums like the Groeninge Museum are close by, as is the Town Hall and if you want to do some shopping, the two main shopping streets are just a few minutes away. To get to the hotel, you can either take a taxi (9 euros*) or there is a bus stop 500 meters from the hotel.
Service
The staff welcomes you with a smile at your arrival and is ready to help you with suggestions or any other questions you may have. I was surprised by the little touches that give a hotel stay just that bit of extra: a card from the hotel owners to welcome me, a ‘good night’ note on my pillow or a morning message with the weather forecast for that day.
Rooms
The classic interior can look a bit old-fashioned, but on the other hand gives the room a certain class and style. There is a large TV screen, mini-bar, iron and ironing board, DVD and CD-player, electronic safe and an iPad (more on that later). The bathroom with toilet and shower, also offers a hair dryer, cosmetic mirror, …. Everything for a comfortable stay.
Breakfast
The Champagne breakfast buffet had a nice selection of bread, artisanal jams, smoked salmon, … but also a warm section with eggs, bacon and more. Fresh orange juice, coffee & tea served in beautiful decorated porcelain and of course champagne.
Free Wifi and an iPad
I always look out for free wifi at hotels as it is important to me. But having an iPad for my convenience was new to me. This hotel was Europe’s first hotel on the continent to provide the iPad2 in each of its 24 luxuriously appointed guest rooms. By offering the iPad2 as a complimentary amenity, the hotel is aiming to pair a traditional guest experience with the ultramodern conveniences of the digital age.
Hotel rates start at € 173 for a standard double room. You can find availability here.
I was invited as a guest, but all opinions in this post are my own.
