The beauty and rich history to be found in Dorset has made it a firm favourite for caravan holidays for many decades, and not just during the summer. There are also many wonderful things to do in Dorset at Christmas time, here are four great days out to plan while you’re there.
Steam into Christmas at Swanage Railway
Ever-popular with children and adults alike, Swanage Railway is one of the UK’s best heritage steam railways and each Christmas their Santa Specials are a roaring success. Enjoy a picturesque one-hour journey from Swanage to Norden and back with your family whilst the children meet Santa and receive their gift, and the adults tuck into mince pies and a Christmassy drink! It’s an unforgettable day out to enjoy on caravan holidays to Dorset that the kids will be talking about for weeks.
See Weymouth Lit Up in Lights
Christmas in Weymouth is a colourful affair and a whole afternoon of events will mark the annual switch-on of the town’s lights, on the 1st December. There will be music and entertainment in the town centre from 1pm and a fun-filled procession from the Pavilion at 3.45pm, with the lights being switched on at 4pm sharp. Wrap up warm and take the kids, and don’t forget to drink plenty of hot chocolate to stay cosy!
Enjoy a Festive Flotilla at Poole Harbour
Each year, boat owners in Poole are encouraged to adorn their vessels with Christmas lights and join in with the ‘Sea of Lights’ festive flotilla at Poole Harbour. This year’s event will take place on the 2nd December from 6pm, as part of the Christmas on the Quay event that takes place all day, and dozens of boats are expected to set sail! There are prizes on offer for the best-dressed boats too, making this a fun night out on caravan holidays to Dorset this Christmas.
Get Into the Christmas Spirit in Bournemouth
The annual Bournemouth Christmas Festival brings heaps of festive cheer to the town, along with alpine chalets selling seasonal gifts, treats and trinkets, a BBQ Bratwurst grill and a crepe stall, as well as thousands of stunning fairy lights, animated Christmas characters and lots of fake snow! It’s the perfect way to do your essential Christmas shopping on your holiday, as well as just enjoy some important family time.
