“Hot dogs! Get your hot dogs!”
I`m sitting at the bleachers of Yankee Stadium, waiting full anticipation for the New York Yankees to play against the Rays. This isn`t my first baseball game I`m attending (I saw an Orioles game in Baltimore years ago) but I`m more excited about this one coz everybody knows the NY Yankees. And the stadium is only one year old.
While I`m trying to take it all in: the big stadium, the screens, the seating areas, the field,… fans are slowly finding their seat and filling up this stadium.
The players are warming up, running and throwing balls, sometimes even into the audience for a fan to take home a souvenir! Unfortunately not in my direction, but heh I`m enjoying the atmosphere so much I can`t be bothered.
Something I`ve noticed is that there is tons of food available: hot dogs, nuts, cotton candy and my favorite: pretzels. And of course there`s beer, even Belgian ones!
The crowd is getting ready for the game, but first there`s a short ceremony to honor “The Boss”, George Steinbrenner, New York Yankees Principal Owner.
Of course we can`t start a sports game without the National Anthem and no one less than Frank Sinatra Junior is here to sing that for us.
And we`re off!
For someone who isn`t familiar with the baseball rules, this game can be a bit confusing. Here`s some more info on how a baseball game is played.
The crowd does cheer on their team, you can here several times: “Let`s go Yankees, Let`s go Yankees,…” going through the stadium.
And when there is a ‘Homerun’ the crowd goes crazy!
Ambiance, food, great company, what`s not to like 🙂 When you`re visiting New York and you`re into sports I would recommend attending a baseball game!
