As this was my first visit to the city of Melbourne, I found it difficult to pick a hotel. I wanted an affordable hotel (I`ve come to the conclusion Australia is quite expensive with the current exchange rate for us Europeans) but still a nice hotel and preferably with a good location. I received some recommendations online and ended up at the Travelodge Docklands Hotel.
Location
The hotel is located in the new Docklands business district right next door to the Southern Cross Train Station. It was easy to get everywhere on foot: Southbank, the Crown Casino, the Melbourne Exhibition Centre and right across the CBD of Melbourne.
Room
The room had a modern look and a nice size for a city hotel. You even have a little kitchenette with mini fridge, microwave and coffee/tea making facilities. There`s a desk to work on with table high power points, which is convenient when you want to get some work done. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and lots of room to put your toiletries. In short this is a clean and comfortable room with all the facilities you need.
Service
Because I arrived from a late flight (that also got delayed), I ended up missing dinner time at most restaurants. Upon arrival I inquired about restaurants and got several recommendations close by. After checking them out and seeing it was after their serving time, I decided to order room service, which was quick and affordable. Nothing beats having the luxury of being comfortable in your room and ordering room service.
Easy to get to
By car it`s easy to get to as it`s located only five minutes’ drive from the Princess Highway, off Wurundjeri Way exit on Aurora Lane. Parking is available for an additional AUD$ 20 per night in their parking. If you`re not coming by car, not to worry, as it is next to the Southern Cross Station you have easy access with public transport. Southern Cross has connections to regional Victoria.
Perfect for a sporting event or concert!
If you want to catch a sporting match or attend a concert at the Etihad Stadium, then this is the place to stay. It`s across the road from it, I could even see it from my room.
The rate for overnight accommodation in a king room starts from AUD$139*. You can find availability here.
