The MAve is a 72-room boutique hotel, located in the Flatiron District of New York City (map). Opened in the Summer of 2009.
I already had contact with the concierge in advance to ask him some questions about transportation. They were very quick in answering (within 24 hours) and gave me good information. They also helped with the car service arrangements. When we got there, the staff was very friendly and made you feel welcome.
The room was big enough for my standards, considering you`re in New York. And also the bathroom had all the comfort I needed: rain shower, luxury bad products, hairdryer, … The room was clean and tidy. Desk, flat screen TV, coffee maker, IHome alarm clock,… the only thing missing for me, was a mini-bar.
If you subscribe to their Desires Program, you get a drink and snack offered on the day of arrival.
The beds were very comfortable, even though there was noise from the streets, I still slept good. The noise comes through the window air conditioning/heater units. But it is my understanding they are working on fixing this. Street noise is something that a lot of the hotels in NY suffer from, as it is a city that lives day and night!
In the morning there is a complimentary `grab and go` breakfast served in the lobby from 7 am – 9 am. I think it`s a nice plus, because you don`t have to go out and search for a breakfast place. Fresh Danish, croissants, coffee,… But it is as stated: Grab and Go, there is no seating (as the lobby doesn`t have a seating area). So, you can either eat it on your way out or take it to your room. I only stayed here for one night, but next time I want to try the room service, as it is provided by Olana`s restaurant.
Complimentary WiFi is a big plus, as some hotels dare to ask a lot of money for this amenity.
The thing I will remember the most about this hotel, is the service. One of the staff even ran upstairs when I got a phone call and let me know. Because I accidentally had my speaker phone on and they couldn`t transfer the call. If you talk about outstanding service!
