This is a guest post.
Anyone who has ever dreamed about going to Paris for a trip, has usually the same thing holding them back: their budget. You will be happy to know that there are several things to do right in the city that are free!
There is no need to spend a lot of money, because with public transportation available, you have your day filled with no cost activities quickly.
The guest writer recommends the following five as some of the best sights for free:
• THE ALTERNATIVE EIFFEL TOWER
This amazing sight can best be seen by standing a few feet away. Around the tower there are several photo spots to take that one perfect shot. Many people wait in the long lines to take a ride to the top, but you can choose to enjoy the tower from the bottom. There are often vendors close by and other interesting things… Why not choose to have a picnic and enjoy the Eiffel Tower in a different and fun way? You can easily spend a day just sitting around, taking photos or do some people watching.
• NOTRE DAME
This beautiful cathedral is free and one of the favorite places of most tourists. It can be crowded sometimes, but well worth the visit. It is a beautiful example of French architecture. Remember though this is still an active Catholic church and on any day of the year there are services. It is important to be respectful while visiting this beautiful church.
• PLACE DES VOSGES
This amazing square is one of the oldest in France and it is possible to sit on the grass and enjoy a beautiful afternoon. Victor Hugo’s home is located here and of course the admission is free. Street bands offer music and make it a place to hang around for a while.
• GALLERIES LAFAYETTE
Most people associate Paris with fashion and so it is fun to take in one of the famous fashion shows. Every Friday at three, it is possible to see a free fashion show and get a glimpse of some of the newest trends!
• PERE-LACHAISE CEMETRY
This is a great cemetery to wonder through. Anyone who loves history will enjoy seeing all the famous people who are buried here. Oscar Wilde, Sarah Bernhardt and Chopin are just a few of the names most people will recognize. Plan on spending a half day here to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful surroundings.
Visiting Paris is a wonderful thing and with good preparation, it can be done relatively inexpensive. Most people find that eating out can be the biggest expense, so buy things from local food markets or at the supermarket to save money. There are lots of free and interesting things to do and with a little ingenuity, it can be the experience of a lifetime.
