Travel Diary
Because we want to get to Sorrento and it`s a long drive, we decided to already start our trip from Venice and make a stop in Bologna. That way we already have 2 hours less to drive tomorrow and it was a nice way to also see and learn a little bit about Bologna.
Bologna is the capital city of Emilia-Romagna in the Northern of Italy. It`s the home of the oldest university in the Western world, University of Bologna, founded in 1088. You can find culture, history and art in this city. Also the cuisine is famous. Bologna has given its name to the Bolognese sauce. In the city it`s called ragù, as in Tagliatelle al ragù.
After we checked into our hotel Best Western City Hotel, we walked to the historic center of Bologna, to Piazza Maggiore. Because it was already evening, I have some photos of Bologna by night.
Because we had no idea of where to eat, we asked a local for a good tip. Unfortunately the place she recommended was very busy, but we ended up closeby in this nice restaurant: Trattoria Bottega dei Facchini Bologna. Of course we wanted to try the famous Spaghetti Bolognese! When we wanted to order it, the owner explained there is no Spaghetti Bolognese, only Tagliatelle Bolognese. Or Tagliatelle al ragù is how they call it. And that`s what we had & it was very good! Probably the best I`ve eaten.
Off to bed, to get a good night rest. Next place: Sorrento.
