Ile de Ré gets described as one of the jewels of the Atlantic Coast, not hard to understand once you`ve visited here. This destination has a lot to offer and I`ll certainly come back to it, but for now I wanted to talk about beach activities at Ile de Ré.
When I went for my morning run, I was in for a surprise. Upon arriving at the beach I saw these little dots in the water and discovered I wasn`t out alone at the crack of dawn. Maybe ten surfers were floating in the water, waiting to catch the right wave.
If you like a bit of speed, why not try “sand yachting”. It`s also known as land sailing, because you`re moving across land in a wheeled vehicle powered by wind through the use of a sail. It`s fun to do. You hop in the vehicle, hold the ropes and maneuver your way through adjusting your sail. When the wind hits your sail, you can actually catch quite some speed.
But if all of this is too much for you, you can always go for a nice stroll along the beach.
Ile de Ré is a great destination for a mini-break. It`s 35 minutes’ drive from La Rochelle. La Rochelle is a three hour train ride from Paris.
If you want to give the sand yachting a try. We were hosted by CNPA Ile de Ré.
Thanks to Sandrine from the Poitou-Charentes Tourist Board for being a wonderful host. And Sue & her team from MagellanPR for organizing this trip! Even though this was a sponsored trip, my thoughts in this post are my own.
