Monte-Carlo, Monaco is famous for its casinos, the F1 Grand Prix and a glamorous lifestyle but its scenic Mediterranean coastline also means it has some beautiful beaches. The seafront area is called Larvotto and is home to public and private beaches, bars and restaurants and the prestigious Monte-Carlo Sporting Club.
A few interesting Monaco seaside facts:
- Monacos beaches are mostly man-made, reclaimed from the sea and built-up to provide locals with a seaside space.
- You dont need a license to fish in Monaco but you cannot fish from the beach in Monaco!
- Le Méridien Beach Plaza is the only hotel property in Monaco with a private beach front.
- In April 2010, the third annual Monte-Carlo Beach Volleyball Competition took place in Larvotto – 16 players, representing eight nations (including Latvia, Estonia, France and Italy) faced off with the Italians being declared the 2010 winners! This year it was billed Eco-Beach Volleyball with an emphasis on environmental awareness.
