Quirky Things to See and Do in Bermuda

For those of you who thought Bermuda is only about beaches, think again. Here are some quirky things to see and do in Bermuda, where the people win you over with their charm and smile.

Masterworks, Museum of Bermuda Art

This is definitely a hidden gem in the Botanical Gardens. A unique collection of Bermuda inspired art is displayed for you to enjoy.

Admission: 5 US dollars, free for members & children under 12

Hours: Mon – Sat 10 am till 4 pm, Sun 11 am till 4.30 pm, closed on public holidays

Tip: There`s also a lovely café with a nice outdoor terrace and a charming lounge in the basement you have to check out. And if the weather isn`t sunny and you want to hide away with a good book, then the room upstairs is perfect for that.

 National Gallery

Centrally located in the City Hall & Arts Centre in the heart of Hamilton, the Bermuda National Gallery houses Bermuda’s national art collection.

Admission: Free

Hours: Mon – Fri: 10 am – 4 pm and Sat: 10 am – 2 pm, closed public holidays

 Perfumery

This is maybe more of a girly visit, but making a stop at a perfumery is a great experience. They learn you more about the background of perfume, fragrances and so much more. If you`ve got the chance, attend afternoon tea.

Hours: Mon – Sat: 9 am to 5 pm (Winter: 10 am – 4 pm)

 Lisa Quinn Art studio

Lisa has a charming studio, located at Southampton with beautiful views of the South Shore. She`s an artist well known for her watercolor flowers and the rich color palette. She`s vibrant and you can tell she`s passionate about her art which makes this a stop you`ll enjoy.

Admission: Free

Hours: Tuesday – Saturday from 10 am till 4 pm

 Ducking of the wives

This must have been the strangest event I`ve witnessed on my travels. In the old days they used a ducking stool to punish nagging wives and this is demonstrated at the town square. Yep, the woman got ducked into the water several times!

Make sure you attend the Major`s speech, he`s a character.

This is part of the Rendez-Vous activities that are offered to visitors during the winter months.

 Rum Swizzle

Having a Rum Swizzle, rum based cocktail and often referred to as the national Bermudian drink, is a must. Rum, fruit juice (including lime, orange and pineapple juice) and a flavored sweetener such as grenadine, are the most consistent ingredients. You can find this drink almost anywhere, but the Swizzle Inn is famous for its swizzles. It`s the oldest and probably most famous pub in Bermuda.

Happy Hour

Kick off the weekend on Friday at the hippest Happy hour at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. Enjoy this social get together while looking over the water and the sun setting on the day, live music in the background.

Take the pink bus

To get around on the island of Bermuda, the pink buses are an easy way of transportation. Do keep in mind when stepping aboard the bus, you need either a bus pass or the exact amount of money (coins, no bills are accepted!).
